I love taking familiar myths, forgotten history, and supernatural folklore from around the world and twisting them into something new. Whether it's an ancient evil hidden beneath a quiet California lake, a vampire legend rooted in forgotten folklore, or a mystery buried beneath centuries of secrets, my goal is always the same: tell the story in a way you haven't seen before.
MY STORY
I was born in Belgium before eventually making Texas my home.
I've toured Europe for decades playing music, recorded six albums, worked as a firefighter, served in the military, worked in emergency management, helped produce films, and eventually discovered that writing gave me another way to explore the things I've always loved, history, mystery, legends, and the people who find themselves caught in extraordinary situations.
Today I split my time between emergency management, writing fiction, speaking at events, and constantly researching the next strange piece of history that might become my next book.
CURRENT PROJECTS
I'm currently working on Demon on the Hill, a supernatural detective novel, along with several new projects including Something Inside a collection of 20 short stories and other stories that continue expanding my strange little universe.
BEYOND THE BOOKS
When I'm not writing, you'll probably find me surrounded by animals.
My wife and I share our Texas ranch with what has become a steadily growing collection of rescued animals. Every time we tell ourselves, "Okay... this is the last one," and then another animal finds its way to us.
I love traveling, history, bookstores, old cemeteries, Halloween, museums, and long conversations about books, movies, and music.
Some of my biggest influences include Dean Koontz, Graham Masterton, Joe Hill, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Patricia Cornwell, Tolkien, and Margareth Weis & Tracy Hickman.
Musically, my playlist jumps between Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Böhse Onkelz, Ramones, and Toxpack. But I listen to all sorts of music. For example, Bach is my favorite classic composer.
If I'm watching movies, there's a good chance it's Se7en, The Fifth Element, Alien, Aliens, The Thing, Army of Darkness, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Cabin in the Woods, or The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
